Volunteer Voices: Holli Chlebowski
Some people spend their birthdays with lavish parties, while others choose to give back in lieu of presents. Holli Chlebowski chose to celebrate her 30th birthday with United By Blue and Sperry Top-Sider at our Canarsie Pier cleanup in Brooklyn on April 14th.
How did you hear about UBB and the Canarsie Pier cleanup?
I found out about the UBB and the Canarsie Pier cleanup while searching for a volunteer event for my birthday weekend. I wanted to invite friends to join me in doing something that means the world to me instead of having a party or going to a dinner.
What was your favorite part of the day?
I was very impressed that UBB uses eco-friendly corn-made biodegradable bags, bamboo gloves, and provided breakfast and lunch to all the volunteers. Those little details mean a lot to the volunteers who donate their time and care about the environment.
Do you regularly volunteer?
I have been volunteering a lot in the last year and it has helped me find a feeling of fulfillment and joy that I hadn’t felt in a long time. It has helped me find my true self and heal from some hard times.
Any tips, tricks, or advice for people thinking of coming to a UBB cleanup?
I do advise volunteers to be very careful while picking trash, work hard, have fun, and thoroughly enjoy the sense of accomplishment and pride that will fill your heart at the end of the day.
Anything else you’d like to add about yourself or your volunteer experience?
I am really thankful that I could be a part of the UBB cleanup at Canarsie Pier. I think more companies should get more involved like this. I had a great time and I hope it inspires others to become aware of the environmental issues around us and start making positive changes.
Thank you so much! This made my day!
Thank you Holli, having wonderful volunteers that are looking to make a difference always make our jobs and day a little brighter.
